Alfredo Monroy Miami Beach Artist
I am an artist who mainly works with acrylic and oil paints. Through abstraction, I create intense personal moments created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles.
My paintings don’t reference any recognisable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
This style allows me to always be in the moment. Since it’s all intuitive, I don’t think about the next brush stroke, mark, etc until I finish the current action. What develops from this even surprises me at times.
My latest body of work, “Perfectly Imperfect“ explores the question, what is beauty? Instead of trying to hide those imperfections, embrace them, accent them, letting the world know that beauty isn’t perfection but rather lies in the uniqueness of each individual. My intention is to create beautiful works of art, full of unique imperfections that help add to the overall beauty of the work.
The road that took me to realize that I indeed was an artist at heart, was non-traditional, to say the least.
Although I have been drawn to art since I was an adolescent and have been increasingly involved in the craft....as an observer, fan, collector, etc., and I patronize/support local galleries, art shows and other activities, I didn't have an awareness of my own ability as an artist until later in life.
Art was always my hobby but it took me a while to realize that I could add another dimension to my hobby by trying my hand at actually painting something. I went to an art supply store and bought some materials and went to work. I have not looked back.
I am self-taught but have very strong influences from some great artists. My main influences in art have been from some of the great masters such as Picasso, Condo, Wilfredo Lam, Basquiat, Kandinsky, De Kooning amongst many others. I'm very drawn to their styles and I think it's evident in my work. I like to combine bright "in your face colors" with shapes and designs.
My art continues to evolve as I explore different subjects, thoughts, and perspectives. I believe my passion for my craft comes through in my work and I see my work evolving even more as I explore different mediums.
